A Long Piece of Rope
Think you’re as strong as your dog? Why not play a game of tug-of-war?
There are many types of rope, some you should be careful with or not use at all. Hemp rope is great because it is anti-microbial, water-resistant, and it does a great job of cleaning dog’s teeth.
Pick a rope that your dog can easily bite down on. A pet shop should have a rope appropriate for your dog’s size.
Some dogs are very aggressive chewers and can easily tear through the rope in a matter of minutes. If you got one of these tough guys there’s the option of rubber toys. There are even rubber toys that are advertised as nearly indestructible.
A rubber Kong is a good example of this. You might have to tie a rope around the rubber toy if you find your hand getting way too close to your dog’s teeth.
Almost Any Ball You Can Think Of
A ball!? Yep, that’s right. Using a ball is a great toy for a good old game of fetch. A classic amongst dog owners.
It doesn’t even have to be a ball, you can use a frisbee, your pooch’s favorite stuffed toy, and even a piece of rope will work too.
Teaching your dog to fetch can take a bit of time but the end result is way worth it. It’s one of the common tricks that are taught to dogs.
Your lovely K9 will get tons of exercise running back and forth. Plus all the throwing that you’ll be doing will get you in shape for that baseball game you haven’t played yet. The bond and trust that you’ll build between you and your dog will grow so much stronger with this form of play.
Some dogs love to chase after the ball and keep it away from their owners. If you run into this problem a leader and a bag of yummy dog treats will take care of that.
